Aviva improves on critical illness payouts
Aviva paid out 684 critical illness claims during the six months to the end of June; with an average payment at £74,740 the total came to over £51 million.
In addition, the group paid out £87 million in life insurance to the families those who had died, or customers diagnosed with a terminal illness.
Other key statistics for the first half of 2010 include:
A 2% year-on-year rise in payment of critical illness claims, to 93% of all critical illness claims.
Claims declined for non-disclosure of medical facts at the policy’s outset reduced to 1%, from 2% a year earlier.
The insurer also advises that Cancer remains the most common cause of a critical illness claim, at 64%.
The group’s protection director, Richard Verdin, comments: “We’re proud of our critical illness payment record, as it demonstrates that we really do come though when it matters for customers.”
He adds: “Our claims team has received a 98% satisfaction score from customers, which is a real testament to the way we deal with customers … and the processes we have in place to make it as easy as possible.”
